Durrits
Stubby and short, Durrits are a unisex specicies made of living rock. They live for thousands of years and reproduce by breaking in half; after thousands of years, they have built up their size using sand. Durrit reproduction truly is a secret that only Durrits understand.
Needless to say, their reproduction process is slow.
In the Great Wars, the Durrits struck back against the Felk; The Felk had taken to mining the Durrit colonies for the rather rare precious minerals found inside a Durrit body. Believing that the Felk may have made a mistake and thought they were pure rock, the Durrit initiated contact with the tall, slender creatures.
It wasn't a mistake. The Felk didn't care.
The war was tough on the Durrits since they didn't reproduce quickly; any losses were great. But they were able to cause a lot of pain to the Felk and made the wars very costly. But they were losing.
In an act of desperation, the Durrits hatched a plan; they captured two Felk women and bound them in a circle, and cast spell after spell upon them; they reached out to their unknown Durrit gods for power and gave it to these women. One remained unconscious through the spellcasting, while the other felt every ounce of the transformation.
The Durrits finally completed the spells; spells that had transformed the practically immortal Felk women into beings of supreme strength and power; spells that had bound them to the will of the Durrits.
But what is a magical binding to creatures with the most power in the known world?
The Durrits lost the war, and Dyr and her sister, Aeline, fled the ruined remains of what had once been a species.
