The Caskas Incident
In year 724 after the Founding of the Province of Aarde, the King, Queen and Crown Prince of the Province began a cyclical year-long tour of their holdings in celebration of the Prince's arrival at the Age of Ascendancy. The Prince, until he reached the Age of Ascendancy, could not be named heir; with the King being an elderly man, the occassion of his son reaching Ascendance was one of Province-wide celebration.
The Great Plains of Fowlkeep are bisected by the River Murat. On the north side of this river is the Province of Aarde; to the south is the Province of Lucht. Sitting on the north side of the river is a city named Caskas; a pivotal trading point for the people of both provinces, the people of Caskas have, for the most part, become well-off or wealthy. Though the wars of 415 left Caskas with a poverty-plagued tent city that seemed to thrive in population if not wealth, the city was considered a strong and secure part of Aarde.
During the Royal Family's stop in Caskas, the head of the Temple of Aeline in the city launched a covert assassination attempt against the King. About to be promoted to the head of the Order of Aeline, the Priest wished to use this opportunity to eliminate the King and become the young Prince's chief advisor. The assassination attempt was narrowly averted by a citizen of Caskas who gave his name as Michael. The young man, upon defeating the Priest, detailed the corrupt and vile world hidden by the rich trading facade of Caskas. His best friend had been murdered, he had been trained as a thief by the temple itself.
The Caskas Incident led way to new laws which would change the way cities in Aarde were governed. The goal was to eliminate corruptions and prevent temples from selling children into slavery.
